The University of Cyberjaya (UoC) marked a significant milestone in its sustainability journey with the successful conclusion of SDG Week 2025, held from 8 to 10 December. More than a three-day campus initiative, SDG Week reflects the University’s ongoing commitment to advancing sustainability, health, climate action and global partnerships as core pillars of its academic and community mission. The programme brought together students, staff, industry partners and the wider public in a collective effort to translate the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into meaningful action.

Throughout the three days, SDG Week 2025 came alive through a diverse range of student-led forums, hands-on workshops, and campus-wide engagement activities that addressed humanitarian action, climate responsibility, health, and well-being. Key highlights included the Youth for Palestine Forum, which fostered critical dialogue and empathy on global humanitarian issues, the Climate Fresk Workshop that strengthened climate literacy through collaborative learning, and a series of interactive health and wellness initiatives led by students across nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, and medical programmes.

Together, these activities reflected a holistic approach to the SDGs, translating awareness into practical action while reinforcing the University of Cyberjaya’s commitment to shaping socially responsible and globally aware Changemakers.

Youth for Palestine Forum

A defining highlight of SDG Week 2025 was the Youth for Palestine Forum, held under the theme of SDG 1: Poverty. Led by Year 1 Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students in collaboration with Diploma of Psychology students, the forum stood out as a powerful student-driven initiative that championed humanitarian values, social empathy, and global awareness.

Speakers included Mr. Zulfadhli Khiruddin and Miss Iylia Balqis, both Global Sumud Flotilla activists, alongside Associate Professor Mohamad Saidy, Senior Lecturer from the Centre for Foundation, Languages and General Studies (CFLGS). They shared insights on the humanitarian situation in Palestine, global perspectives, and personal experiences with the Global Sumud Flotilla team.

The forum was complemented by an exhibition area, educational displays, donation drives, and a poster competition. Attendees engaged with the exhibits, contributed generously to fundraising efforts, and expressed advocacy for Palestine through creative visual art, sending powerful messages of hope, justice, and solidarity.

Climate Fresk Workshop

As part of the university’s commitment to SDG 13: Climate Action, the Climate Fresk Workshop also brought together students and staff from various faculties in an interactive learning environment focused on climate literacy and sustainability.

Using the Climate Fresk methodology, participants engaged in a card-based, participatory session that explored the causes, mechanisms, and consequences of climate change through collaborative discussion, systems-based thinking, and critical reflection. The workshop encouraged meaningful dialogue and teamwork, enabling participants to connect scientific evidence with real-world environmental impacts.

In addition, climate mitigation strategies were shared, highlighting practical actions at individual, institutional, and societal levels. By involving both students and staff, the session fostered a shared sense of responsibility and reinforced the importance of informed decision-making in reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable practices. The workshop also reflected SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and collective problem-solving.

Health and Wellness Highlights

SDG Week also featured interactive health-focused initiatives across the campus:

  • Protect Your Heart, Protect Your Future! – Nursing students educated participants on heart attack risks, prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.
  • Breast Health Awareness—In collaboration with the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA), students demonstrated clinical breast examinations and self-check techniques to promote early detection.
  • Physiotherapy Booth & Zumba Session—Encouraged active lifestyles through personalised posture screenings and a group Zumba workout.
  • School of Traditional and Complementary Medicine (STCM)—Raised awareness on female reproductive health, including PCOS and menstrual irregularities.
  • Nutrition Screening & Healthy Cooking Demonstration—Dietetic students provided body composition analyses and demonstrated nutritious meal preparations such as egg wraps and dragon fruit smoothies.
  • CPR and AED Demonstration – The University of Cyberjaya Medical Assistant Society (MAS) educated attendees on essential life-saving cardiopulmonary techniques through hands-on demonstrations

Community Engagement and Impact

Throughout the week, participants contributed to collection drives, donation campaigns, and hands-on activities that promoted health awareness, humanitarian action, and sustainable practices.

“SDG Week 2025 embodies the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and social responsibility that the University of Cyberjaya strives to cultivate. It is truly encouraging to witness the active participation of our university community in initiatives that advance sustainability, holistic well-being, and global awareness. The Sustainable Development Goals serve as a shared framework that guides collective action within and beyond the university, reinforcing our responsibility to contribute meaningfully to society. Each effort, no matter how small, plays a vital role in driving positive change towards a more inclusive and sustainable future,” said Dr. Hemalatha Pannir Chelvam, Manager, Rankings and Analytics Department, representing the SDG Committee 2025.

The combination of forums, exhibitions, wellness booths, and educational demonstrations successfully fostered a spirit of community, learning, and action, empowering attendees to translate awareness into tangible contributions toward the SDGs.

SDG Week 2025 reaffirmed the University of Cyberjaya’s long-term commitment to advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through education, action, and collaboration. By embedding sustainability, health, climate responsibility, and social awareness into meaningful campus initiatives, the University continues to nurture socially responsible, health-conscious, and globally aware Changemakers who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities and to society at large.
