Cyberjaya, 1st October 2020 – Being a market leader in the education industry for almost 15 years, the University of Cyberjaya has become a reputable institution with academicians fit to be a part of distinguished educational panels at programmes, seminars and workshops. The most recent being the Elevating Leadership Instrument & Evaluation (ELItE) Series workshop which was attended by the University’s Chancellor, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali and Vice Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohamed Abd Razak.
The workshop cum focus group was organised by the Akademi Kepimpinan Pendidikan Tinggi’s (AKEPT) Centre for Leadership Profiling (CeLP). Tan Sri Anuwar and Dato’ Dr. Abd Razak attended the workshop as distinguished panellists among 6 other prominent members.
They include the Chairman of Universiti Malaya, Yang Mulia Tengku Datuk Dr. Mohd Azzman Shariffadeen Tengku Ibrahim, Executive Director of the government Economic Action Council, Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, and senior leaders from Maybank and SP Setia Sdn Bhd among others.
Formed in 2006, the AKEPT was set up to bring a significant impact to local higher learning institutions. The workshop series, which was held at Hotel Tenera, Bangi was held to revisit the validity of instruments at the AKEPT Leadership Assessment Centre. Distinguished members shared their experiences and philosophies of leadership in strengthening the leadership context of AKEPT.
Vice Chancellor, Dato’ Dr. Abd Razak said, “I am always looking for opportunities to engage in deliberating ideas for the improvement of the higher education industry. It was an honour to be a part of the many distinguished panellists who provided their expert opinions on the subject matter of leadership.”
Dato’ Dr. Abd Razak is a trained orthopaedic surgeon specialist who previously served as the director of Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia and the president of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association. He is also the recipient of four Silver research Awards, seven Gold Awards, recipient of best paper award and the Mahmood Merican Award for Orthopaedics.
“We are always happy to provide our feedback where necessary to improve the Ministry of Higher Education. The Elevating Leadership Instrument & Evaluation (ELItE) Series workshop was a great platform to give our insights on improvising the various instruments and utilised at the centre and we’re grateful for the opportunity given to share our thoughts,” added Chancellor, Tan Sri Anuwar.
Established as an economist in the areas of industrial planning and human resource development, Tan Sri Anuwar is one of the leading figures in Malaysian academia. He was appointed as Economic Consultant to a number of national and international projects such as UNIDO Consultant to the Industrial Master Plan, Malaysia (1986 – 1995); UNIDO Consultant to the Industrial Development of Bhutan, 1990 – 1991; Consultant to the Action Plan for Technology Development, Malaysia and the Action Plan for Small and Medium Scale Industries, Malaysia.
Aside from its leaders contributing to the society, the University of Cyberjaya has always upheld leadership as an important part of its students’ extra curriculum. In fact, many of its students have been chosen to lead the Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA) over the years. Senior students at the University have also taken charge of organising international humanitarian missions as well as local health awareness programmes.
With its motto, Nurturing the Passion to Care, the University hopes to inspire its students to become a respectful yet compassionate leader of the future.
