The Grand Hall at the University of Cyberjaya was imbued with a profound sense of spirituality as around 60 participants gathered for a thought-provoking Ramadan talk titled "Ramadan: Madrasah Taqwa & Penyucian Jiwa." Organised by the University of Cyberjaya Zakat & Welfare Trust Fund (TAZUoC) recently, the event began with a soulful Quranic recitation by Arif Aqasha, a Foundation in Science (Medicine/Pharmacy) student. His recitation set a serene tone for the session, guiding everyone into a moment of deep reflection. The event was skilfully emceed by Akmal Husain, a Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) student, whose warmth and professionalism ensured the smooth flow of the programme. Several student volunteers from the Cyberjaya University Pharmacy Students' Society (CUPSS) also played an integral role in supporting the event's success.
The heart of the session was a captivating talk by Lt. Col. Ustaz Mohd Nizam Termizi Al-Hafiz, who illuminated the deeper significance of Ramadan as a time for self-discipline, soul purification, and devotion to Allah. Ustaz Mohd Nizam emphasised that fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink, highlighting its purpose as a spiritual training ground for cultivating taqwa (God-consciousness). Through fasting, one nurtures qualities such as patience, sincerity, and self-restraint.
He also spoke passionately about the Quran’s role as a divine reminder and source of guidance, urging participants to make it their closest companion during the holy month. Ustaz Mohd Nizam further demonstrated the significance of proper tajwid (pronunciation) and tartil (rhythmic recitation), illustrating how voice modulation and clear articulation elevate the spiritual impact of Quranic verses.
Additionally, Ustaz Mohd Nizam encouraged attendees to embrace infaq (charitable giving) during Ramadan, reminding them of the immense rewards for those who help those in need. He also emphasised the importance of seeking forgiveness, advising participants to incorporate sayyidul istighfar (supplications for forgiveness) into their daily routine as a means of cleansing the heart.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among participants, who were reminded of the deeper spiritual essence of Ramadan beyond the act of physical fasting. The talk inspired all present to approach the month with sincerity, engaging in self-improvement, and strengthening their connection with Allah through the Quran, acts of charity, and heartfelt repentance.
A notable moment during the event was the launch of Wakaf @ UoC, an initiative by TAZUoC to promote sustainable charitable giving. The project aims to support long-term welfare initiatives that benefit the university community. Contributions can be made via the CIMB account 8602031200 (Tabung Zakat dan Bantuan Kebajikan CUCMS).
