This initiative also provides a platform for university students and researchers to present their works to be evaluated by a panel of experts. The participation was not only opened to internal staff and students but also to other institutions of higher learning.

The keynote speaker was YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr M Jegathesan presenting on the topic of the ‘Past, Present and Future’. The topic focus in the “digital revolution” which clearly has made huge impacts in the way we conduct research and use its findings in our daily life. This will certainly be compounded soon with the incorporation of robotics and artificial intelligence into our everyday lives which some reflect upon as “disruptive technologies” that could potentially cause the future loss of research personnel and jobs as we now see them.

Among other plenary speakers were Dr. Abhimanyu Veerakumarasivam from Sunway Institute for Healthcare Development who spoke on the Cancer Genetics: Research Reflecting the Desire to Impact Lives. The topic highlighted on the increase in genetic instability associated with bladder cancer progression which is often associated with the dysregulation of DNA Damage Response (DDR) genes. While bladder cancers share some common molecular features such as the dysregulation of classical tumour suppressor genes, there is great genetic divergence across tumours.

The second plenary speaker was from the International Islamic University Malaysia, Dr. Hazrina Ab. Hadi who presented on the topic of Cosmetic Research: Reaching beyond the Fantasy. She stressed on the increase in usage of cosmetics these days and how skin scientists play a vital role in inventing the most advanced research and technology to develop products that are effective, safe, and gentle for global customers and the environment.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak, President of CyberjayaUC presented on the topic of Medical Research: Orthopaedic Innovation Research. He focused on the improvement of the patient care and recovery through new devices in orthopaedic surgery. However, he stressed that the cost of these implants or devices could hindered the process of holistic treatment.

Lastly, Mohd Khairul Annuar Othman and Muhammad Khalis Othman from DreamEDGE Sdn. Bhd presented their research on the Challenges in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and Digital Dental Solution Center respectively.

At the sideline of the Research Week was the launch of the book “Mengemudi Emosi”, a Malay translation of the original book “Mind Over Mood” by Dennis Greenberger and Christine A Padesky. Prof Dato Dr Hj Abd Rahim Hj Mohamad led the translation effort in collaboration with Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM) and Morne Art Gallery.

The CEO of ITBM, Mr Mohd Khair Ngadiron, YBhg. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ridzwan Abu Bakar, Chairman of the Board of Governors CyberjayaUC and Prof. Dato’ Dr. Hj Abd Rahim Hj Mohamad with all the translators of the book, ‘Mengemudi Emosi’.

The Chief Executive Officer of Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books, Mr Mohd Khair Ngadiron said, “A research by World Health Organisation (WHO) stated that mental health will replace cardiovascular disease as the main factor for an individual fit to work or otherwise. It was indeed timely for the translation of medical sciences books in this topic. We need a proactive action in ensuring the industry to provide intellectual benefits for the public consumption”

This book was chosen because of its wide target readership which not only focused on psychologist and counsellor but the public as well. ‘Mind Over Mood’ explains the way on how people could overcome emotional instability including the questions of depression, low self-esteem, addiction and anxiety attack.
