University of Cyberjaya FCAD Students Explore Malaysia's Parliamentary Democracy Through Educational Visit
Students from the Faculty of Creative Arts and Design (FCAD) at the University of Cyberjaya recently gained valuable firsthand insight into Malaysia's legislative process during an educational visit to the Parliament of Malaysia. The visit provided students with an opportunity to experience the country's democratic institutions beyond the classroom while deepening their understanding of governance, public policy, and civic responsibility.
Accompanied by their lecturers, the students explored both the Dewan Negara and the Dewan Rakyat, where they learned how Parliament functions as the nation's legislative body. Through guided briefings and firsthand observation of parliamentary proceedings, the experience connected academic learning with real world practice, giving students a greater appreciation of how national decisions are debated, developed, and enacted.
Bringing Classroom Learning to Life
Educational visits play an important role in enriching students' learning experiences beyond the classroom. For students studying communication and media, understanding how public institutions operate is essential to developing informed perspectives on governance, public policy, and current affairs.

The programme began with a briefing by Parliament officers in the Dewan Negara, where students were introduced to Malaysia's parliamentary system and the legislative process.
Participants learned how a bill progresses through Parliament, beginning with debates and deliberations in the Dewan Rakyat before proceeding to the Dewan Negara for further review. Once both Houses approve the bill, it is presented to His Majesty the Yang di Pertuan Agong for Royal Assent before becoming law.
Students also gained a clearer understanding of the composition and responsibilities of Malaysia's two parliamentary chambers. They learned about the roles of Members of Parliament in the Dewan Rakyat and Senators in the Dewan Negara, and how both institutions work together to ensure balanced representation and effective lawmaking.
Witnessing Democracy in Action
One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity to observe a live parliamentary sitting from the public gallery of the Dewan Rakyat.
Students watched Members of Parliament debate current national issues, present differing viewpoints, and discuss matters that influence public policy and the nation's future.
