The Faculty of Psychology and Social Sciences (FPSS), University of Cyberjaya, recently organised a two-day Mental Health Awareness Programme at SJK(C) Sin Ming, Semenyih, benefiting a total of 1,335 primary school pupils.
Held on 20–21 May 2026, the programme was conducted in collaboration with the school's Board of Governors, with support from the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and parent volunteers. The initiative was fully sponsored by Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bandar Kajang, the local chapter of a global non-profit network of young leaders committed to empowering youth through leadership development, community projects, and networking opportunities that create sustainable community impact.
The programme was led by Associate Professor Dr. Crendy Tan Yen Teng, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Psychology and Social Sciences, together with 13 Bachelor of Psychology students from the University of Cyberjaya. As part of the initiative, the students played an active role in planning, facilitating, and conducting a series of engaging mental health awareness activities tailored for primary school children.
The activities focused on emotional recognition, emotional expression, empathy-sharing, and interactive games designed to help pupils better understand and communicate their feelings while developing greater awareness and appreciation of the emotions of others. Through a safe and supportive learning environment, participants were encouraged to strengthen their emotional regulation, empathy, positive peer interactions, and healthy communication skills.

According to Dr. Crendy, the primary school years are a crucial period for developing emotional and social competencies that contribute to a child's overall well-being and future success.
"Community engagement initiatives such as this provide valuable experiential learning opportunities for our psychology students while allowing the University to contribute meaningfully to the well-being and development of children within the community," she said.
The programme also reflects the University of Cyberjaya's commitment to producing socially responsible graduates through experiential learning and community engagement, while fostering greater awareness of mental health among younger generations.
The Faculty extends its appreciation to SJK(C) Sin Ming, its Board of Governors, the PTA, parent volunteers, and JCI Bandar Kajang for their support in making the programme a success.
