Getting Started With Sustainable Development Goals

Cyberjaya, 14th July 2021 – 33 staff from the University of Cyberjaya recently participated in a webinar titled “Getting Started with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in Centre for Foundation, Languages and General Studies (CFLGS)”. This online training was a collaborative project with the University of Cyberjaya SDG committee and involves all CFLGS staff.

The Centre for Foundation, Language and General Studies (CFLGS) offers academic programmes to prepare students for undergraduate studies in medical, pharmacy, allied health sciences, occupational safety and health, business and technology. In response to the vision and mission of the University of Cyberjaya Sustainability committee, the centre took its first step toward integrating the element of Sustainable Development Goals into academic curriculum and activities through organising an online training on understanding the different ways in which goals can be implemented by different courses offered in the centre.

The objective of this event was to raise awareness of the 17 United Nations’ SDGs among CFLGS staff, identify opportunities in the implementation of the SDGs into the teaching and learning activities in CFLGS and help the university to achieve the SDG’s goals to improve the university’s SDG ranking.

The webinar which was held via Microsoft Team was conducted by honorable speaker, Assistant Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sr. Ir. Dr. Hj Suhaimi Abdul Talib of College of Engineering, UiTM, Shah Alam. Prof. Suhaimi is also currently serving as a Specialist Consultant on the Malaysian Qualifications Framework and Learning Outcomes at the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA).

“It was an insightful session! The integration of SDGs towards curriculum helps promote the empowerment of students’ skills, knowledge, and self-belief, thus enabling higher learning institutions to produce quality graduates who are highly motivated, creative and able to be self-reliant spiritually, mentally and socially,” said Chemistry lecturer, Mdm. Norhafiza Abdul Ghani, who is also the Sustainability Committee member for the University of Cyberjaya.
