The University of Cyberjaya recently hosted a meaningful Aidiladha Celebration at its Welcome Centre, organised by the Tabung Amanah Zakat dan Kebajikan University Cyberjaya (TAZUoC). Held on 10 June 2025, the event brought together Muslim staff members from across the campus in a gathering that celebrated faith, compassion, and community togetherness.

In attendance were Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Azrin Esmady Ariffin, University Registrar Puan Esty Sharkawi, and Chief Regulatory Officer and Patron of TAZUoC, Dato’ Haji Abd Rashid Bin Haji Mohd Shariff. They were joined by members of the university's academic and administrative staff, whose presence further uplifted the spirit of the event.

The programme began with a recitation of verses 27–32 from Surah Al-Hajj (Chapter of the Pilgrimage) by Muhammad Aiman bin Amran, a first-year MBBS and Quran memorisation student. These verses highlight the significance of Hajj (pilgrimage) and the practice of Qurban, or sacrificial offering.

Qurban refers to the ritual sacrifice of livestock such as cows or goats during Aidiladha, commemorating the story of Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son as an act of devotion to God. It symbolises obedience, compassion, and generosity, as the meat is traditionally distributed to those in need.

In his opening speech, Dato’ Haji Abd Rashid expressed appreciation to all UoC staff who contributed to this year’s Qurban. The celebration continued with a talk titled “From the Heart to the Divine: Understanding the True Meaning of Qurban” delivered by Ustaz Syed Ahmad Israa’ bin Syed Ibrahim, CEO of the IRIS Institute. The session reflected on the powerful story of Prophet Ibrahim and his son Prophet Ismail, focusing on faith, submission, and selflessness. The programme concluded with a prayer that included a heartfelt supplication for communities affected by conflict, particularly in Palestine.

A key highlight of the event was the distribution of Qurban meat to invited students and underprivileged individuals (asnaf) under TAZUoC’s care. This practice reflects the true purpose of Qurban — to share blessings with those who are less fortunate and to ensure they, too, can enjoy the spirit and joy of Aidiladha.

The celebration served as a meaningful reminder of the values of unity, generosity, and shared responsibility within the university community.
