PEACE Nepal 2017 is the 5th international mission organized by the students of CUCMS which began with the Cambodia mission in 2013, Vietnam in 2014, Pekan Baru, Indonesia in 2015; and Vientiane, Laos last year. Engaging in volunteerism and humanitarian programmes are an essential part of CUCMS’ educational philosophy in producing holistic professionals and healthcare providers with quality attributes of leadership, competency, entrepreneurship, and resistance. For this purpose, the students of CUCMS have been encouraged to organize various humanitarian mission within the country and internationally.
For PEACE Nepal 2017, an amount of RM150, 000 worth of donations have been collected by the students through fundraising events for the past 6 months. CUCMS students have been trained to balance out their time and potentials wisely to make this humanitarian mission successful without ignoring their academic responsibilities. CUCMS believes that this type of education and training will produce graduates and medical and health science professional which are competent and balanced physically, intellectually, spiritually and emotionally, thus in line with the mission of CUCMS.
The peak event in this mission is a medical checkup service which will benefit around 200 villagers. For that reason, TFS has collaborated with a few local NGO of Nepal such as Islamic Medical Association (IMAN), Human Development Academy (HUDA) and Health Services and Relief Association (HESRA). These organizations will help in identifying the target that will be receiving various types of aid. Tribhuvan University, Nepal, will also be sending 20 students as translators during the medical checkup. Other than that, Nick Simons Institute (NSI) which provides medical training in rural areas will also be sending its senior representative Dr. Kassim to the ground during PEACE 2017.
Participants also receive guidance from volunteers of MyCare Malaysia, which is among the earliest NGOs to arrive in Nepal during the earthquake in 2015. In fact, MyCare will also send two of its activist to Nepal for this mission. We hope the bond between students and these established NGOs will strengthen and continue to make this humanitarian and volunteerism programmes successful.
TFS CUCMS hopes that the fate of victims of an earthquake will not be forgotten by the world and this humanitarian mission will be done continuously in the future because they still need help.
