Cyberjaya, 18th March 2017 – Almost 500 runners took part in the CUCMS 5KM Superhero Fun Run today, making it the first successful event of its kind, where runners were encouraged to dress up in a superhero costume. Every finisher received a medal for their achievement and especially creativity in the selection of costumes.
Several participants impersonated their favourite superhero and many creative ideas and designs were seen at the Superhero Fun Run. The run is not only to advocate on the healthy lifestyle but to fill our lives with more meaningful creative activities that inspire the public to think differently.
Punitha Govintharaju, a year-2 student who came dressed as the Pink Power Ranger said, “It was an amazing running event and we are so thrilled, there are a few running events here but this one definitely one of its kind. I hope they will continue again next year.”
Also, seen at the event were participants dressed as Spider and Batman among others.
The run was flagged off by Dengkil State Assemblyman, Y.B. Tuan Shahrum bin Mohd Sharif accompanied by Prof. Dato’ Dr Shahruddin Mohd, Deputy President of Student Affairs and Alumni and Prof. Datin Dr Rosnani Hashim, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at 7.30 am at CUCMS Cyberjaya Campus.
It was organised by the CUCMS’ Pharmacy Student Society (CUPSS) of Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences which received a heartening participation and support from the public aged between two to 60 years old. Prof. Dato’ Dr Shahruddin Mohd added, “The university always encourages our students to think creatively and to be innovative at the same time. Despite focusing on their studies, this project helps them to increase competency in leadership and managerial skills which are very much needed in their future undertaking”.
Dr Zainol Akhbar Zainal said, “This weekend is for sure one of the most productive weekends in 2017 so far, I usually caught up with work and spend less time exercising to keep my body healthy but with a great theme and ambience of Cyberjaya. I will join more running events in the future for sure.”
Project Director, Nurliyana Hidayah Bt Khairulnizal, a year-2 student said, “It is definitely a memorable experience for me and the team has put a tremendous amount of efforts in making this project a success. However, we managed to pull it off even with many challenges that we must face, I believe teamwork is always better than running the show alone.”
This effort is in line with the University’s motto, ‘Nurturing Passion to Care’ and CUCMS encourages students to be active and creative simultaneously. It is also to give an exposure to our students and develop them in a holistic members of society that can contribute positively.
