Course Structure

Course Description

The Bachelor of Counselling (Honours) degree is designed to prepare students to become professional counsellors, equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals, families, and groups through various life challenges. This programme combines theoretical coursework with practical training, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional practice.


Course Training and Practical

Students will undergo practicum and internship. Practicum will be in-house, at our UoC Health & Psychology Clinic. Students will need to complete 252 hours in order to proceed to do their Internship. The hours are related to counselling practices, individual and group. As for Internship, students will need to apply to NGOs, hospitals, schools, companies, government offices, higher education institutions and health centres for their training practice in counselling. Students will need to be supervised by a practising licensed and registered counsellor at the internship placement. Student will need to complete 510 hours of internship which comprises individual, group, couple, and family counselling.

The Experience

Who is teaching?

The educators will be licensed and registered counsellors who have years of experience in teaching, supervision and research. The educators are also practising counsellors with the Lembaga Kaunselor Malaysia (LKM).

Classes are held at Cyberjaya Campus with our state of the art facilities, especially at the following facilities:

Off Campus Learning

Learning will also take place in real-world scenario where students are posted at the hospitals, NGOs, schools, government offices, corporate offices, higher education institutions and health centres.

A pass in STPM or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects

A pass in A-Levels or its equivalent, with a minimum of Grade C (GPA 2.00) in any two (2) subjects

UEC
Other

A pass in UEC with minimum Grade B in five (5) subjects

Diploma
Diploma Level

A Diploma or its equivalent, with a minimum CGPA of 2.00

Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/DLKM
Diploma Level

Pass Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia (DKM)/ Diploma Lanjutan Kemahiran Malaysia (DLKM)/ Diploma Vokasional Malaysia (DVM) with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 in a relevant field subject with the approval of the University.

Credit in English at SPM level or its equivalent.

Candidate must also attend bridging courses.

Diploma

Pass DKM/ DLKM / DVM with at least CGPA 2.00 AND have at least two (2) years of work experience in the relevant field.

APEL

Entry requirements for admission into the Bachelor's programme through Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) as approved by the Ministry of Education (MOHE).

Applicants should be / have the following:

  • A Malaysian citizen
  • More than 21 years of age
  • Relevant work experience / prior experiential learning
  • Pass APEL assessment
  • Credit in SPM / UEC for Maths or equivalent

 

For International Students Only

Minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS; or 500 in TOEFL or its equivalent.
