In an effort to expose students to industry expert educators, University of Cyberjaya recently appointed Datuk Lakshmanan Meyyappan as Adjunct Professor associated with the university’s Faculty of Business and Technology.

As an adjunct professor, he will be sharing strategies and ideas for teaching and learning development aside from examining the curriculum of the faculty. Datuk Lakshmanan will also contribute to help escalate and sustain research in the university as well as assisting with supervising postgraduate research endeavours. Students will also benefit from his public lectures/seminars in specialised subject areas.

“I am extremely pleased to be appointed as the Adjunct Professor of the University of Cyberjaya. After serving the insurance industry for more than 50 years, this appointment comes right after my retirement after celebrating my 80th birthday. There is nothing quite like being recognised by a reputable university,” said Datuk Lakshmanan Meyyappan.

Datuk Lakshmanan Meyyappan started as a bookkeeper with MCIS Insurance in 1961 and rose through the ranks to reach the position of Chief Executive Officer of the company in 1995. While working, he was associated with the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia since its inception in the 1960s and also held the position as its president in the past.

He was also the Founding Chairman of Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency, an agency set up by Bank Negara Malaysia in 2006, as part of a Consumer Protection Framework.

For his contributions, he was bestowed the royal award of Ahli Mangku Negara by the Yang di-Pertuan Agung in 1986. He was also bestowed the Malacca State Award Darjah Pangkuan Seri Melaka that carries the title “Datuk” for his notable contributions to the Malaysian insurance industry and cooperative movement in Malaysia.

Following his retirement from MCIS in 2006, Datuk Lakshmanan served as a Non-Executive Independent Director in Ambank Group of insurance companies and NESA Cooperative for about 10 years.

Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Zabidi Hussin said: “We take pride in having accomplished academicians among us as we groom our young minds to lead the future. We truly believe our students will greatly benefit from his teaching and experience in the field of insurance and cooperative movement.”

The university continuously works towards forging a strong relationship with industry leaders and reputable organisations to benefit its students.
