Cyberjaya, 11th October 2016 – The Colombo Plan International Centre for Certification and Education of Addiction Professionals (CPICCEA) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) for the joint development of a new postgraduate programme for addiction professionals namely the Postgraduate Diploma (PgD.) in Addiction Prevention.
With this agreement, Cyberjaya University College becomes one of the very few recognized centres in the world and the only university in Malaysia to offer an internationally approved addiction prevention programme for professionals. The signing took place at the Equatorial Hotel, Malacca on the sidelines of the 7th International Conference on Addiction organized by the CPICCEA, Asian Cities Against Drugs (ACAD) and the Malaysian Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).
CPICCEA was represented by its Secretary General, Mr Kinley Dorji and its Director Mr. Tay Bian How while CUCMS was represented by Prof. Dr. Abdul Latiff Mohamed, Deputy President of Academic and International Affairs and Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mahmood Nazar Mohamed, Professor of Psychology at CUCMS.
Under the joint-collaboration, CPICCEA will assist CUCMS to develop the programme curriculum based on the updated Universal Treatment Curriculum for Substance Use Disorder (UTC) while CUCMS will deliver the programme at its state-of-the-art campus in Cyberjaya. CPICCEA has also committed to provide 10 internationals scholarships open to addiction professional from developing nations as part of its Colombo Plan commitments.
Successful candidates who complete the one year programme will also be eligible to sit for the separate ICCE International Certified Addictions Professional (ICAP) credentialing examination.

The new PgD in Addiction Prevention once fully developed will be offer to both Malaysian and international candidates. It joins an existing CPICCEA approved programme, the PgD in Addiction Science which is also delivered by CUCMS. Over 10 international students have already enrolled for the previous programme.

The new programme is timely as it helps professionals in developing nations to better understand the science behind addiction and to develop education and prevention strategies and facilitate the successful execution of such initiatives at the national stage. It is a part of a broader global action towards managing the impact of addiction on society.
