A Warm Welcome to Our New Chancellor

Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar Ali was officially installed as the Chancellor of the University of Cyberjaya on 23 November 2019 at the University 10th Convocation ceremony. He is the second person to hold this role and to represent the University of Cyberjaya as one of the leading higher institutions in the region.

He is one of the leading figures in Malaysian academia. Within a span of more than forty years since 1973, when he began his career as a tutor, he has established himself not only as an economist (in the areas of industrial planning and human resource development) but also as an academic leader. He was the first academician posted to the Ministry of Education as its Director of Higher Education (1996-1998).

Currently, he is also a Member of the Board of Trustees the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER); Member of National Lifelong Learning Committee (NLC), Member of the National Minimum Wage Council as well as the Chairman of the Technical Committee National Wages Consultation; Member of the National Higher Education Council; and Member of IIUM Academy of Graduate & Professional Studies Business Advisory Committee.

As Chancellor, Tan Sri Anuwar represents the institution at special occasions and confers degrees and other academic awards.

“University of Cyberjaya is honoured to install Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Anuwar bin Ali as its new Chancellor. The installation of the new Chancellor and the attainment of full university status is a great honour and will bring us a lot of recognition and benefits,” said Chairman of the University’s Board of Governors, Tan Sri Dr Ridzwan Abu Bakar. “We must seize every opportunity we can get to increase our University’s profile to be recognised and respected internationally,” he added.

Tan Sri Anuwar said in his acceptance speech, “I am confident that the university will progress to a higher level of academic distinction in the years to come producing excellent graduates in its areas of specialisation. This university I believe will play a significant role in the areas of medical and health sciences; and indirectly enhancing the quality of our country’s human resources. If we strive for quality education, giving its students the best in their learning processes and environment, the university will certainly be on the right track.”
