University of Cyberjaya (UOC) Mass Communication students gained valuable industry exposure at the official launch of Menara FINAS Damansara, an important milestone in the continued development of Malaysia’s film and creative industry.

The launch was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, bringing together key stakeholders and members of the creative community to mark a significant chapter for the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS).

The occasion was particularly meaningful as FINAS celebrates 45 years of advancing Malaysia’s film industry, highlighting its longstanding role in supporting the development, promotion and preservation of the nation’s cinematic heritage.

Connecting Mass Communication Education with the Creative Industry

For University of Cyberjaya’s Mass Communication students, the visit provided an opportunity to experience the wider media and film ecosystem beyond the classroom.

During the visit, students explored facilities at Menara FINAS Damansara, including the P. Ramlee Digital Cinema, Museum of Moving Image and Film Vault. These facilities offered students insights into different aspects of Malaysia’s film industry, from showcasing cinematic works to documenting and preserving the country’s audiovisual heritage.

The experience also enabled students to gain a broader understanding of the institutions and infrastructure that contribute to the growth of Malaysia’s media, film and creative industries.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Industry exposure is an important complement to academic learning for students pursuing studies in Mass Communication, media and communication.

Participating in industry events allows students to observe developments within the sector, understand the roles of key organisations and connect their academic knowledge with the realities of the professional media landscape.

Experiences such as the Menara FINAS Damansara launch are particularly relevant for aspiring media and communication professionals, as the industry continues to evolve alongside developments in digital media, content creation, broadcasting, filmmaking and creative technologies.

By engaging with the institutions and heritage that have shaped Malaysia’s creative landscape, students can develop a deeper appreciation of the industry they may one day contribute to.

Preparing Future Media and Communication Professionals

At the University of Cyberjaya, learning extends beyond lectures and coursework. Providing students with opportunities for meaningful real-world exposure is part of the University’s commitment to developing graduates who are informed, adaptable and prepared for their future careers.

For Mass Communication students, engagement with organisations such as FINAS helps broaden their perspectives on Malaysia’s media and creative ecosystem while providing greater context to what they learn throughout their studies.

Through industry exposure, experiential learning and engagement with the professional community, the University of Cyberjaya continues to prepare students to contribute meaningfully to the evolving media, communication and creative industries in Malaysia.
