Modernised facility enhances access to digital resources, collaborative learning and research,
unveiled in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations

The University of Cyberjaya (UoC) today officially unveiled its upgraded library, marking a significant milestone in the University’s continued efforts to enhance its academic ecosystem and create a future-ready learning environment for its students.

The upgraded library was officiated by the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, during a ceremony attended by university leadership, faculty members, students and invited guests.

In his officiating remarks, Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir emphasised the importance of evolving learning environments in strengthening Malaysia’s higher education landscape: “In this environment, access to education alone is no longer sufficient. What matters just as much is the ability of our institutions to provide learning experiences that are relevant, adaptive, and future-ready. Universities today must go beyond being centres of knowledge dissemination. They must become ecosystems that nurture innovation, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.”

Chairman of Cyberjaya Education Group Berhad, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Shahrom bin Dato’ Hj. Nordin (Rtd.), said the initiative reflects the Group’s continued commitment to strengthening the University’s academic environment: “The upgrading of the University of Cyberjaya Library reflects our commitment to investing in infrastructure that supports the evolving needs of students and academia. By enhancing access to digital resources and creating spaces that encourage collaboration and innovation, we are building an environment that enables our students to thrive in a rapidly changing education landscape.”

Vice Chancellor of the University of Cyberjaya, Prof. Dr. David Whitford, said the upgraded library reflects both the University’s forward-looking vision and the values of inclusivity and collaboration within its community: “The upgraded University of Cyberjaya Library serves not only as a space for learning, but also as a platform that brings together students, academics and industry partners to collaborate, exchange ideas and innovate. By enhancing access to digital resources and global knowledge, we are strengthening our ability to nurture critical thinking, advance research capabilities and equip our students with the skills needed for the future.”

Designed as a modern, digital-first academic library, the upgraded facility represents a shift from a traditional book-centric model to a more collaborative and technology-enabled knowledge hub. With the capacity to accommodate approximately 600 students at any one time, the library provides a balanced environment for quiet study, group discussion and interdisciplinary engagement among students, academics and industry partners.

The upgraded facility also offers access to 22,309 physical volumes and more than 29 million digital resources, including academic databases and e-journals that support a wide range of disciplines and research needs.

The project involved a total investment of approximately RM1.49 million, reflecting the University’s continued commitment to strengthening its academic infrastructure and improving the overall student learning experience.

Key facilities include collaborative discussion areas, smart learning rooms, quiet study zones, digital access terminals and flexible learning spaces that support both individual and group learning needs.

The launch ceremony included the officiation speech and plaque signing by the Minister of Higher Education, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony and guided tour of the upgraded library facilities. Held in conjunction with the University’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, the event also reflected the values of unity, inclusivity and togetherness that underpin the University’s community – bringing students, faculty and partners together in a shared space of learning, reflection and progress.

The initiative reaffirms the University’s continued dedication to fostering an inclusive and forward-looking academic environment that equips students with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to succeed in an increasingly digital and interconnected world.
