Lecturers Sharpen Their Course Delivery Skills in a 2-day Workshop

27 April 2016 - Major advances in the education regulations have always necessitated changes in how universities prepare and deliver their lessons. And while lecturers have always been adept at teaching, it is always good to attend a refresher course every once in a while. With that in mind over 40 professors, lecturers and academic support staff gathered for a 2-day intensive workshop at Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences.

The Workshop on Course Preparation & Implementation was held on 26-27 April 2016 and aimed to equip course coordinators in managing their courses in accordance with regulatory requirements and best practices in education. Topics covered include essentials of document preparation, monitoring of implementation and management of a course.

The Workshop was facilitated by Assoc Prof Dr Yong Rafidah Abdul Rahman, Director of the Quality Management and Enhancement Centre at CUCMS.  Dr Yong Rafidah is also a family medicine specialist, medical teacher, educationist and a quality assurance practitioner who has led numerous academic and training programs for both CUCMS and external organizations.

Interactive discussions based on faculties’ experiences was a central format of the workshop as the various participants shared common challenges encountered during planning and implementation of a course. Many of the junior lecturers and new programme coordinators who attended the workshop left feeling confident and satisfied. They now have a better understanding of the current practices in terms of managing the teaching and learning, assessment of students and curriculum improvement and will be able to apply best practices in their daily work.

This will ultimately enhance the teaching and learning experience of the university students.
