The University of Cyberjaya (UOC) Faculty of Pharmacy secured third place overall at the 19th Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA) National Pharmacy Sports Carnival (NPSC) 2026, emerging as the highest-ranked private higher education institution among 12 participating pharmacy schools in Malaysia.
With 8 gold, 13 silver and 5 bronze medals, UOC’s pharmacy students demonstrated teamwork, discipline and determination across sporting and intellectual events. Their achievement highlights a vibrant student experience where academic commitments sit alongside opportunities to build confidence, pursue interests and develop leadership skills.
Hosted recently by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) at its Health Campus in Kuantan, Pahang, the carnival brought together approximately 600 pharmacy students from across the country.

UOC’s contingent delivered strong performances across a wide range of events, collecting eight gold medals in:
The team also earned 13 silver medals across athletics, pétanque, futsal, badminton, swimming, volleyball, sepak takraw, chess and tug of war. Five bronze medals in the Men’s Long Jump, Men’s High Jump, Women’s Futsal, Women’s Basketball and E-sports PUBG completed the medal tally.

As the flagship sporting event of the Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA), NPSC provides a platform for pharmacy students to compete, connect with peers and build friendships across institutions.
Balancing Pharmacy Studies with Sporting Excellence
Behind the medals were more than six months of preparation, with students balancing training sessions, academic schedules and other responsibilities.
Dr. Muhammad Redza Fahmi Mod Razif, Advisor of the UOC Pharmacy Contingent, credited the achievement to the students’ sustained commitment.
“Our students trained consistently for more than six months. Their achievement is a reflection of their discipline, perseverance and willingness to sacrifice their time between academic commitments, training and other responsibilities.”
For Kirthigan A/L K. Kerbanathan, Head of the UOC Pharmacy Contingent, the team’s willingness to support one another was central to its success.
“The commitment and dedication shown by all our athletes have been extraordinary. Many of our students have balanced demanding academic schedules with months of rigorous training, yet they continued to push themselves and support one another.”

Developing Future Pharmacists Beyond the Classroom
Participation in competitive sports gives students opportunities to practise communication, teamwork, time management and decision-making under pressure. These experiences complement their academic development and help build qualities relevant to their future roles in healthcare.
Associate Professor Masro Mohamad, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs & Networking, Faculty of Pharmacy, emphasised the value of balancing academic responsibilities with co-curricular involvement.
“At the Faculty of Pharmacy, we believe that developing a competent pharmacist goes beyond academic excellence. Students need opportunities to develop leadership, teamwork, resilience, discipline and confidence. Sporting activities provide an excellent platform for students to challenge themselves, support one another and discover their potential outside the classroom.”
The NPSC achievement reflects this commitment to student development, demonstrating how pharmacy students can pursue academic goals while making time for sport, healthy habits and meaningful connections.
The Faculty extends its appreciation to the students, coaches, contingent leadership, Dean, faculty advisors and university leadership whose collective support made this achievement possible.
