Cyberjaya, 19th October 2016 – Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak, President of the Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) was awarded the OIC Jewels of the Muslim World Award 2016 today at a special ceremony held in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Dr. Mohamad, a renowned orthopaedic surgeon and career educationist, has long championed for affordable education and for the betterment of the community. Today’s award, presented by the Second Finance Minister Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani, recognises Dato’ Dr. Mohamad’s long-term contributions to the field of education.
The prestigious Award, currently in its 7th year is an endeavour to mark excellence, innovation and accomplishments of individuals in the areas of business and societal improvement. The eight award winners for 2016 are highly respected movers & Shakers who have created economic value and nurtured talents through their efforts. This recognition, awarded by OIC Today magazine will be of great importance as an inspiration to the younger generation to become productive and capable participants in the global economy. Among the winners are Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Group Chairman of Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) and H.E. Abdulsalam Al Murshidi, Executive President of State General Reserve Fund & Chairman of Uzbekistan-Oman Capital LLC and Oman-Brunei Investment Company, Sultanate of Oman.
Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak pursued his medical degree in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysian completing it in 1979 and later his Masters of Surgery (Orthopaedic) in 1985. A trained orthopaedic surgeon specialist, Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak has served as the director of Hospital University Kebangsaan Malaysia, president of the Malaysian Orthopaedic Association, visiting registrar of the Orthopaedic Department at Edinburgh University, registrar and spinal injury fellow at the Southport Spinal Injuries Centre in Liverpool and the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.
When he took leadership of Cyberjaya University College, Dr. Mohamad Abdul Razak was determined to instil the same spirit of volunteerism in the university graduates. His mission is to contribute to society by helping to produce excellent individuals who will prosper and excel in serving humanity in line with the University’s vision. Under his leadership, the university has adopted a culture of contributing to society through active student volunteerism. CUCMS students have organised medical assistance teams to regions such as Aceh, Vientiane and soon Cambodia.
“As a university, we must practice what we teach, and if we preach about producing professional and caring healthcare leaders then we must also ensure our graduates practice this,” said Dr. Mohamad. “Today’s award is not just about me, but rather it is what we have created at CUCMS, a culture of helping others and contributing to the betterment of society.” he added.
Since 2013 he has been the President of Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS). He has been instrumental in helping the university position itself as a committed partner in helping students achieve their career dreams. His relentless drive for best in quality has been a guiding force that has made the university an MQA SETARA Tier-5 (Excellent) rated institution. Under his dynamic leadership, the university has turned around his operation, growth significantly in students’ numbers to over 3,500 students and introduced a new slate of programmes.
The Jewels of the Muslim World award began in 2011 and has significantly been related to the main goal of the annual event ‘The Muslim World BIZ’ represented in elevating the status of the Islamic economy through systematic processes. On one hand, these processes boost intra-trade activities between the 57 member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, while enhancing the collaboration of the Muslim countries with the rest of the world on the other. Every year the award is presented at a special ceremony during the official launching of ‘The Muslim World BIZ’. Throughout the past five years a total of 43 leaders have received the award.
