17.2 Relationships to support the goals

17.2.1 Relationships with regional NGOs and government for SDG policy

The University of Cyberjaya actively contributes to SDG policy development by engaging in initiatives that address national and regional challenges, such as diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through events like the "Workshop on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)," the university provides valuable insights into the issues faced by various sectors, helping to shape policies and strategies that foster inclusive practices. By collaborating with key stakeholders, including NGOs and government bodies, the university plays a role in identifying challenges and offering solutions, aligning its efforts with SDG-related goals, particularly those aimed at reducing inequalities and promoting social justice.

Additionally, the university supports the monitoring and reporting of interventions related to SDGs, ensuring that policies are effective and adaptable. The DEI workshop, for example, not only provides an opportunity for policy discussion but also helps track progress in creating inclusive environments. The university’s involvement in these initiatives enables adaptive management, allowing for continuous improvement of strategies to address emerging challenges in achieving sustainable development. Through these contributions, the university helps shape the future of SDG policy at both regional and national levels.

17.2.2 Cross sectoral dialogue about SDGs

The University of Cyberjaya’s SDG Week 2024 features a variety of forums, each addressing key sustainable development goals. Notably, the "Shaping a Sustainability Future - The 2030 Agenda" forum on SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), exploring how collaboration is essential to achieving the SDGs. This forum encourages dialogue about the global sustainable development agenda, highlighting the importance of cross-sectoral partnerships between governments, NGOs, and academic institutions. The following day, the university hosts a forum on "The Role of Diet in the Prevention and Management of Cancer", showcasing the integration of health and sustainability in the university's educational framework.

The University of Cyberjaya’s active participation in such forums demonstrates its commitment to initiating and fostering cross-sectoral dialogue about the SDGs. By hosting these discussions, the university creates a platform for collaboration between government bodies, NGOs, and academia to address pressing issues like health and environmental sustainability. This engagement aligns with the university’s role in contributing to policy development, raising awareness, and facilitating partnerships that promote sustainable development at local and regional levels. Through these forums, the university not only educates but also bridges gaps between sectors to drive collective action toward achieving the SDGs.

17.2.3 International collaboration data gathering for SDG

The University of Cyberjaya has committed to participating in the Race to Zero campaign, a global initiative aimed at achieving a zero-carbon world. This campaign brings together leaders from businesses, cities, regions, and investors to support a healthy and resilient recovery that prevents future risks, generates decent jobs, and fosters inclusive, sustainable growth. In collaboration with the Environmental Association for Universities and Colleges (EAUC), Second Nature, and the United Nations Environment Programme, the university is developing plans to conduct a food waste audit and transition to renewable energy sources.
