“Physiotherapy is one way we can help patients recuperate by means of hands-on skills”, said Vishanth
Vishanth Rathakrishnan, from Rawang, Selangor is currently pursuing his Bachelor in Physiotherapy at Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS). With a keen desire and driven compassion to help people, Vishanth has acquired various skills and practice in treating patients with disabilities throughout his programme. According to Vishanth, “Physiotherapy is one way we can help patients recuperate by means of hands-on skills”.
Coming from a family of four, Vishanth is the second child of two siblings. Often geared up with a drive to breakthrough obstacles and outdo challenges, Vishanth enjoys going outdoors. His hobbies are hiking, futsal, badminton, jogging and going for long road trips. Besides that, Vishanth also enjoys playing online games and reading fiction books. His family has always been a thorough source of support and often played a vital role in all his achievements thus far.
His interest in Physiotherapy increases continually as he discovers new and interesting knowledge such as Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics, Kinesiology and more. He is also very enthusiastic to engage in direct learning whereby he participates actively in interacting with patients during practical sessions.
According to Vishanth, “The freedom I have as a university student is different from the freedom I had at school. University life is exciting because there are broader platforms to what you can do. You get to explore creatively, just the way you want it to be. Living out your ambition begins at university”.
Besides positive academic performance, Vishanth is also an outstanding participant in student club activities. He is the President of the CUCMS Physiotherapy Society (CPS) and the key person to organize a ‘REST OR FIESTA LAH’ (ROFL) 2017 sports event which was launched recently at Cyberjaya University College.
Vishanth is responsible in managing his time as he sees it important to be well-organized in setting priorities right. “It is effective if we are able to arrange tasks from the most important to least important to maintain a balance in time management”, he said.
As the Malaysian health care system depicts Physiotherapy a growing field, Vishanth intends to contribute towards developing new research based studies to elevate Malaysia as one of the global leading health care destinations. He looks forward to being well-equipped with practical skills, gain expertise in treatment procedures and attend more courses or conferences pertaining to Physiotherapy to keep up with current advancement.
Positivity is important to keep progressing. “When you face challenges, don’t give up but fight for it, stay positive and surround yourself with positive people. Always push forward to achieve the impossible because nothing is impossible”, he concluded.
