CyberjayaUC Geared Up for the Love of Sports

23rd October 2017 - Organized by Cyberjaya UC Student Council, the sports carnival which lasted three weeks from 23rd October to 11th November 2017 aimed to stir up energy and team spirit in sports among staff and students while also promoting healthy living.

Participants belonging to respective color teams, Red Dragon, Green Griffin, Blue Pegasus and Yellow Phoenix gave their best performances in every sport. Among the sports activities organized were badminton, volleyball, tennis (Single & Double), basketball, futsal, bowling and many more.

The competitions were held at various locations such as the Cyberjaya Community Club, Varsity Lodge, Cyberjaya Sports Arena and D’Pulze shopping complex. Participants showed their enthusiasm and gave their full support by participating in each sport event. Many students were present during competitions, cheering and giving moral support to team mates.

“It is ideal to keep fit and sports is definitely one of the solution. We should always be active and practice healthy lifestyle for continuous well-being despite our busy schedules”, urged Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abd Razak while delivering his speech at the launch ceremony.

Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohamad Abd Razak expressed his delight on the efforts taken by students and staff in making this sports carnival a success. “I am very happy that CUCMS students have come up with this carnival perceiving the importance of a well-balanced lifestyle. Apart from that, it is also a great time to put aside stress and join in some exciting fun to develop positive energy and increase performance”, he said.

Muhamad Harith Azizi, Director of the Sports Committee and a student from the Faculty of Pharmacy expressed his gratitude and appreciation towards those who were involved to make the sports event a success, “The support and feedback during the entire Sports Carnival 2017 was truly overwhelming. Students went all out to give their best in every aspect possible. Though it was challenging and difficult, I’m very grateful to all the Sports committee members for continuously being around, playing their part and for carrying out their responsibility. Well done team!”.

Faris Haiqal from Blue Pegasus team won the ‘Sportsman’ title and Felly Alvina from Red Dragon team won the ‘Sportswoman’ title.

The ‘Best House Captain’ title was presented to Zainal Nastaiin upon evaluation of the dedication and leadership traits he portrayed throughout the sports carnival and the ‘Best House March’ belonged to Green Griffin team.

Team Blue Pegasus earned the ‘House Champion’ title having gathered an overall of 12 Gold medals, 8 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals. The team clearly proved the meaning of their name as according to Greek Mythology, “whenever Pegasus, the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring would burst forth”. Indeed, team Blue Pegasus swept almost every medal from each competition and their victory was truly inspiring.

“Cyberjaya UC Sports Carnival was truly an incredible experience for me and I’m glad that I took part in it. It certainly boosted my energy and confidence in sports and I will surely participate again next year”, said Oman Lutfi, Bronze medal winner for the Tennis double (Male category), representing the Green Griffin team.

As Kapil Dev, author cum athlete once said, “Apart from education, you need good health, and for that, you need to play sports”.
