“We cannot stop natural disasters but we can arm ourselves with knowledge;
so, many lives wouldn't have to be lost if there was enough disaster preparedness.”
- Petra Nemcova
Putrajaya, 4th October 2018 – CUCMS was privileged to receive a Letter of Cooperation (LOC) from the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) Malaysia. The LOC was handed over by Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to CUCMS, represented by Assoc. Prof Dr Mohamed Ikram Bin Mohamed Salleh, Director of the Center for Disaster and Relief Medicine.
The agreement will further serve as a platform for both parties to shape the nation’s very own Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) that functions to educate people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and train them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The ceremony’s opening gambit saw the handover of a Survival Bag to the Prime Minister with compliments from CUCMS and its collaborative partners, Celcom, MASkargo and Pharmaniaga.
Indeed, this is another great achievement for CUCMS’ Centre of Disaster and Relief Medicine to continue to provide training and develop academic programmes with recognition from NADMA, in line with the University’s vision of Nurturing the Passion to Care.
The LOC presentation ceremony was organized on the sidelines of the 6th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management (AMMDK), 7th Meeting of the Conference of Parties to the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (COP to AADMER) and ASEAN Day for Disaster Management (AADM) which were graced by Prime Minister YAB Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad at Mariott Hotel Putrajaya.
