A few months on from the successful Karnival Mesra Ubat 2025, our pharmacy students proudly presented their initiatives to protect Rohingya refugees from the dangers of counterfeit medicines. Their project was showcased at the Malaysian Pharmacy Students’ Association (MyPSA) Public Health Campaign Challenge, hosted at Monash University Malaysia.

Held on 10 May 2025 at the Humanitarian Aid Centre in Selayang, Karnival Mesra Ubat addressed the urgent issue of counterfeit medicines within the refugee community. Research has shown that health disparities faced by the Rohingya closely reflect the factors that drive them to obtain counterfeit treatments. In response, the campaign featured engaging activities such as the Tolak Ubat Tidak Sah educational booth, complimentary health screenings, and a mobile health clinic — delivering both vital knowledge and direct health support to the community.

Among eleven participating campaigns nationwide, Karnival Mesra Ubat 2025 was awarded Best Public Health Campaign, a testament to the team’s dedication to community health outreach and advocacy. In addition, one of our student representatives was recognised as a Top 3 Best Presenter, marking another proud milestone in this meaningful journey.

Reflecting on the recognition, the team described the experience as “an unforgettable one, and a blessing to see our efforts recognised at a national level.”

This achievement not only celebrates the hard work of our students but also highlights the importance of community engagement in safeguarding public health — setting the stage for future initiatives to empower underserved communities.
